~Pink Gingham Dress~

image

I really wanted to do a blog post for this dress I recently made.
This dress has been sitting on the side for a few months...Not sure why..Just not been in the mood to actually finish it. Sewing on lace and ribbon in straight lines is so daunting. image

I guess I can try to make this as detailed as I can, As the only photos I have of this as it being finished I will do my best to explain!

It is quite a simple dress to make really. The skirt is made up of 3 teirs, All of them made up of 2 rectangles, the top skirt being around 2 meters in diamiter going down to around 4 at the bottom of the skirt. I always love making these types of skirts. They come out so full and so simple to make. Best of all it gives me lots of places to put lace or frills! YAY!

The pattern I used for this is almost the same as the other Gingham dress I made, This time I followed the pattern fully. In the blue gignham dress I used the top of this bodice and added my own fitted one underneith,

The bodice of this one is a simple 2 peice part that is pulled into shape with shirring. Then the sleeves added in, A row of elastic is added into where the skirt is pulling the waist in and gathering the skirt more. The top is finished in the same way.

The top took the most time, As the house has been renovated over the last month, my sewing machine has been packed away, I finished this by hand. I sewed on the the lace around the top first, then added on the ribbon (I wish it wasn't so salmon pink), finishing it off by hemming it with a 1cm hem to feed the elastic into.
Much like the other Gingham dress I finished the front of with a small ribbon bow.

Next was the waist ties. I was thinking of leaving these till I got the sewing machine out, but I was on a hand sewing spree, I also wanted to get it all finished for Monday so I could wear it to London!

I hand sewed on the hem and the lace. I then went on to mark up the button holes (I always manage to sew them wrong anyway * Emoticons * デコメ of the same face as well

I finished these off with some lace at the end and another bow. I really was not sure about adding the bow to the end of these as I was concerned that this may look a little off, but I think it came out pretty well. Next was the button hole and the button.

There all done

Next time I will do a proper step by step photos. I guess I am not that interesting when it comes to making as I generally stick to patterns as I find it easier when I have the patterns to hand to just use them.

I have a few on the list, One will defiantly get started this week at some point (I hope, Depending on fabric availability) The next one will be more of a vintage 50's dress rather than Lolita.image

I really hope I can get a good going at making things this year, I have so many ideas, Just need to get working on them!
